Aquaparque Panorâmico

The Aquaparque Panorâmico is a summer water park on a hill on the edge of Pombal, in the north of Leiria district. It’s part of a larger leisure complex with a restaurant and event space, and the park says the view stretches from the hills to the sea. Its biggest selling point for families is location: it’s a few minutes off the A1 motorway, the main road between Lisbon and Porto, so it works as a long break on a summer drive as well as a day out for families who live nearby.

The park usually opens from the first weekend of June until September, depending on the weather and the authorities. In 2026 it reopened on 13 June and stayed open until 13 September, closing on 7, 9 and 10 September.

The park says it has six main facilities. Its website lists a semi-Olympic swimming pool, showers and a jacuzzi, changing rooms with lockers, food and drink, and a large open area, and local press describe pools for adults and children and water slides. Its ticket page names three of the rides, the Slide, the Foam and the Rio Bravo, which close half an hour before the park at 18:30.

The semi-Olympic pool is 1.40 metres deep at the ends and 1.70 metres in the middle, so it’s for children who can swim properly. Non-swimmers and toddlers need to stay in the children’s pools with an adult. The park also runs themed parties and entertainment in summer, listed on its events calendar.

Height, age and weight limits on individual slides are not published online, so check the signs at each ride before queuing.

Children aged 0 to 4 go free. The afternoon and late tickets can only be bought at the ticket office on the day. Family packs for a full day cost €54 for two adults and one child aged 5 to 13, €68 for two adults and two children, and €82 for two adults and three children, also sold only at the park. School groups of more than 30 with leaders paid €11 a head in June, July and September and €12 in August.

On a hot evening the late ticket is good value: two hours of slides and swimming for €8.50 a child.

The Restaurante Panorâmico opens for lunch and dinner every day in the bathing season, with seats for 370 people, and specialises in Brazilian-style rodízio (grilled meats brought to the table) and regional cooking. The home page also lists a burger bar.

House rules are strict about the lawn: you’re not allowed to eat on the grass, for hygiene and safety reasons. Glass bottles, sharp or pointed metal objects and alcohol can’t be brought in.

The car park has about 680 spaces. If you’re coming by train, the park says it’s 5 minutes from Pombal station, which has Alfa Pendular and Intercidades services, and there’s a bus from the town centre.

Families expecting a huge theme-park water park with dozens of rides may find it modest, and the deep main pool isn’t a place for weak swimmers. On the other hand, the lower prices, the late tickets and the easy motorway access suit families who want a few hours of slides without committing to a full, expensive day.

For a sea-beach water park, the Mariparque at Praia da Vieira is on the Leiria coast. Pombal’s own beach is Osso da Baleia, a Blue Flag Atlantic beach in the pine forest that had lifeguards and an amphibious chair in 2026, according to the Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente. Further north on the coast, Praia do Pedrógão has a free beach library in July and August.

Out of season, the indoor Piscinas Cobertas Municipais de Pombal by the Arunca river have a shallow learner pool and free public swimming.
