Porto is an easy city with children. It has a tram museum, a planetarium, SEA LIFE and a treetop walk at Serralves, and the Palácio de Cristal gardens are free, with peacocks. Further north, Braga's Bom Jesus has a funicular that runs on water, Guimarães, the hilltop Portugal calls its birthplace, has a castle with walkable battlements, and the Gerês mountains have waterfalls and pools. For working parents there are summer surf camps in Matosinhos and holiday workshops at Serralves.
