Indoor Karting Famalicão

Indoor Karting Famalicão is a covered go-kart track in Famalicão Central Park, beside the EN14 in Vila Nova de Famalicão, in the Minho north of Porto. It has six karts built for children, and the rule that makes it work for families is that child karts never go on the track at the same time as adult ones. A seven-year-old gets the track to themselves and the other children in their race, without a 20-something in a faster kart coming up behind them.

The track is asphalt and fully indoors, so rain, wind and August heat don’t change anything. It covers 2,500 m², runs clockwise and has eleven bends (eight to the right and three to the left) and one 40-metre straight. Its width varies from 4.5 to 5.5 metres. For a child used to video-game tracks, that mix of tight corners and one short straight is where they learn that braking late is not always faster.

Children need to be at least seven years old and at least 1.25 m tall. Both rules apply, so a tall six-year-old will have to wait, and so will a small seven-year-old. Measure at home before you promise anything.

Child karts run only until 20:00. As the track opens at 16:00 from Wednesday to Friday and at 15:00 at weekends, children have a window of about four or five hours each opening day. For children, it is an afternoon activity rather than an after-dinner one.

Older teenagers who are tall enough can drive the adult karts, of which there are 16, all Sodi SR5s. The website doesn’t give a separate age limit for those, so ask at the desk.

A single 10-minute race costs €14. Two races cost €25 and three cost €35; the extra races are for the same driver, one after the other or spread out. Those were the prices when checked in September 2026.

You don’t book. Karting is first come, first served (por ordem de chegada), so you arrive, pay and wait for the next child session. The website also lists vouchers and group events if you want to arrange something for a party.

This is an evening venue. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and doesn’t open until 16:00 on weekdays, staying open until midnight or 1:00. That suits families with older children, but it is no use for a morning outing.

The website doesn’t give details of parking, food or toilets, so check before you go if any of those matter. It does suggest directions through Google Maps.

A child who has never driven anything may find the first minute or two a shock. The karts are real karts, and ten minutes of steering is surprisingly tiring for small arms. Two separate races with a break between often work better than one long go.

Famalicão has a good second stop for the same child: the Museu do Automóvel in Ribeirão, with around a hundred cars from every decade of the 20th century. Visit the museum in the morning and drive a kart in the afternoon. Children who prefer a stage to a track can look at INAC circus school, also in Famalicão. Guimarães castle and the Ducal Palace are within driving distance for a history stop on the same weekend.
