A WhatsApp group that became a community.
The community is a WhatsApp group that a homeschooling parent started herself, from a quiet town hours away from anywhere, because the community she was looking for did not exist. Families joined one by one, spread the word, and it grew into a place where families from completely different parts of Portugal find each other.
There is no organisation behind it, no membership fee and no gatekeeping. It’s just parents who were once where you are now. Here is the full story of how it started.
What it’s like
What happens inside.
- Weekly meetups. Families organise park and beach meets, nature walks and shared learning visits, and others take the reins and arrange their own.
- Real finds. Parents share the clubs, classes and small businesses they discover, so the next family does not have to search from scratch.
- Regional connections. Families in the same city or region find each other in Lisbon, the Algarve, Porto and beyond.
- Honest advice. Questions about registration, schools, curricula and exams, answered by people who are living it and have nothing to sell.
It’s an informal conversation between families. Nobody counts you, and nobody minds if you read quietly for a month before saying hello.
