Parque da Braguinha (SkateParque and playground)

The Parque da Quinta da Braguinha is a green space of about two hectares in the Braguinha neighbourhood of Bragança. It was finished in 2002 as part of a housing development and designed by the architect João Ribeiro. It’s roughly triangular, bounded by Avenida das Forças Armadas, Rua João XXI and Rua Professor Lucas Pires, and laid out in three long strips of lawn, trees and flower beds, with earth paths between the areas.

It isn’t a big destination park. What makes it worth knowing is that it now has two things children want in one place: a playground the council renovated in spring 2026, and, close by, the SkateParque da Braguinha, Bragança’s main skate park.

In spring 2026 the council finished work on the Braguinha playground. The aim, according to Canal N’s report in May 2026, was to improve safety and the quality of the space, with modernised equipment and better infrastructure, so that it would be a safer and more practical place to play and meet.

Neither the council nor the local press has published a list of equipment, the age range or the surface, so check what suits your child when you arrive. The council’s description of the park mentions benches, bins, drinking fountains and lighting throughout, and a separate dog toilet area.

The skate park opened on 16 October 2021, after a council investment of €119,000. The council built it for skateboarding, BMX and inline skating. At the opening, riders from the Academia de Patins gave demonstrations, including national champions and visiting riders from Chile. Trucks and Fins, an international skate park directory, calls it much larger than Bragança’s older skate park near the municipal stadium, on the other side of the city.

The council hasn’t published a description of the skate park’s ramps and obstacles, so you won’t know until you see it which parts suit a beginner. As a rule, young children should start on the flat areas and the lowest ramps and keep out of the way of older riders on the bigger features.

Toddlers and children up to about 7 get the playground and the lawns. Children of 4 to 7 on scooters can roll around the paths and the flattest parts of the skate park when it’s quiet. Children of 8 to 12 who skate or ride BMX will spend their time at the skate park. Teenagers get a proper skate park.

There are no published rules on helmets, so bring one for every child, with pads for beginners. Teach children to wait their turn, to look before crossing someone’s line and not to sit on the ramps. After school and at weekends you’ll find older teenagers there. Wet concrete is slippery, and in summer it gets hot, so go early or late in the day.

This is a neighbourhood park with free access. The council lists drinking fountains and lighting. It doesn’t mention public toilets or a café, so plan around the city centre for those.

Yes. The SkateParque da Braguinha is a public council facility with no charge.

Can children use BMX bikes and skates there?

The council’s description of the park doesn’t mention public toilets, so plan for that.
