Piscinas Municipais de Felgueiras

The Piscinas Municipais de Felgueiras are on Rua D. Gomes de Aciegas in Margaride, the centre of Felgueiras. The council runs five indoor pools and two outdoor ones across the municipality, and this is the biggest site. It has three indoor pools and an outdoor pool, plus tennis and squash courts, a gym, a sauna and a Turkish bath.

For families, the useful thing about this complex is that two of its three indoor pools are small 16-metre pools used for lessons and public swimming. That keeps learners and small children out of the way of the swimming club, which trains in the big pool.

According to the council:

• The 25-metre pool is used for club training and competitions in artistic swimming, swimming and water polo. It is also open for public swimming at set times.
• Two 16-metre pools are used for baby, children’s and adult lessons, aqua aerobics and public swimming.
• An outdoor leisure pool sits in a garden with a paddling pool (chapinheiro) for small children.

The council doesn’t publish depths or water temperatures. It also doesn’t give the outdoor pool’s summer dates or prices on its pools page, and announces them each year on its own channels, so phone before a summer visit.

In 2026, public swimming (banhos livres) ran at these times:

16-metre pool (learner pool)

• Monday to Friday: 8:00 to 17:30 and 20:50 to 22:00
• Saturday: 8:00 to 12:45 and 14:45 to 18:00
• Sunday: 8:00 to 12:00

25-metre pool

• Monday to Friday: 8:00 to 18:00
• Saturday: 10:30 to 12:45 and 14:45 to 18:00
• Sunday: 8:00 to 12:00

A public swim lasts 90 minutes. The complex closes on public holidays, and the council keeps the right to close pools or cancel sessions for events, repairs or maintenance.

Multi-swim cards bring the price down. A child’s 10-swim card costs €18.64 (€12.12 for the October to April midday slot), and an adult’s costs €26.64 (€17.33 midday). The price list starts at age 5, so ask at reception about younger children. Silicone swim caps and padlocks are sold at reception.

The council’s swimming school runs from September to July. The 2026/27 timetable at the Felgueiras pools offers:

• Babies (bebés), 6 to 36 months: Saturday at 11:10, 11:40 and 12:10, and Sunday at 9:00, 9:30, 10:00 and 10:30. €19.95 a month for one class a week.
• Children (natação crianças), 3 to 14 years: weekday evenings from 17:30 to 20:10 in 40-minute steps, plus Saturday mornings from 8:30 to 10:30. €21.31 a month for two classes a week.
• Intensive course for children: €39.94.

Children’s levels are marked by swim cap colour: blue for beginners, green for level 1, yellow for level 2 and red for level 3. The complex also runs adapted swimming (Natação para Todos) and tennis lessons for children up to 14.

Enrolment and fees

• Enrolment costs €14.67, covering accident insurance, the user card and admin. Renewal is €8.80.
• Bring a Cartão de Cidadão and a photo, and sign a responsibility form.
• Pay the first month when you enrol. After that, pay by the last working day of each month; there’s a grace period until the 8th, then a €3.31 surcharge.
• July, the last month of the season, is paid in two halves over the two months after you enrol.
• A second brother or sister aged 14 or under gets 20% off.

For 2026/27, existing swimmers renewed from 22 June, and new enrolments opened on 29 July. Classes started on 1 September 2026. Only swimmers who renew in the first phase are guaranteed their slot, so new families may find popular times full.

The council’s rules for the pools:

• Children up to 6 can be taken into the changing rooms by a parent. From 6 to 8, children may still be accompanied by an adult.
• Wear clothing and footwear suited to each activity.
• The pools aren’t responsible for theft or damage, so use a locker; padlocks are sold at reception.

The price list doesn’t set out swim cap or nappy rules for public swimming. Pack a cap for everyone, as at most Portuguese pools, and ask at reception about swim nappies for babies.

The Piscina da Lixa, a 16-metre indoor pool opened in 1997 next to the Dr. Leonardo Coimbra school, runs baby, children’s and adult lessons and public swimming; it opens weekdays 8:00 to 13:00 and 14:50 to 21:50 and Saturdays 8:00 to 13:00 and 14:30 to 18:00, and is closed on Sundays. The Piscina de Idães, a 25-metre indoor pool opened in 2009, has lessons for children and adults and public swimming. The council also runs an outdoor pool at the Vila Fria campsite.

Felgueiras is between Guimarães and Amarante. In summer, the Parque Aquático de Amarante has slides, and Aquaplay in Fafe is another water park to the north. For another indoor option, Guimarães’ Scorpio pools are the nearest big city pools.
