Piscinas do Rebentão

The Piscinas do Rebentão (Piscinas de Recreio e Lazer do Rebentão) are Chaves council’s outdoor summer pools. They’re in the Quinta do Rebentão at Vila Nova de Veiga, in the parish of São Pedro de Agostém, about five kilometres outside the city. The same estate has the municipal campsite, a small biological farm (Quinta Biológica) and a restaurant, so it works as a whole summer afternoon rather than a quick dip.

The council describes the pools as one of the most popular places to spend the summer in the borough.

According to the council’s announcement for the 2026 season, the complex has:

• A paddling pool (piscina chapinheiro) for babies and toddlers.
• A learner and play pool for children (piscina de aprendizagem e recreio para crianças), for children who are starting to swim or just want to splash.
• A learner and play pool for adults, the main pool for swimming and playing.
• A diving pool (piscina de saltos), for older children and adults who can swim confidently.

That spread is the reason to come here with mixed ages. A toddler can sit in the paddling pool while an older brother or sister tries the diving pool, and the lawn around them gives parents somewhere to sit within sight of both. The council doesn’t publish the depth of each pool, so check with the lifeguards before letting children into the diving pool.

There’s a lawn (zona relvada) around the pools and a bar serving the complex. The campsite’s page also mentions a fitness trail (circuito de manutenção) nearby.

In 2026 the pools reopened on Saturday 13 June, the start of the summer season. The council’s 2026 hours were:

• Monday: 14:00 to 20:00
• Tuesday to Sunday: 10:00 to 20:00

The campsite’s page gives the season as June to September. The closing date is set each year, so check the council’s news in September.

The council’s announcement didn’t include prices, and there was no published 2026 price list for the Rebentão pools when checked. Campers staying at the Parque de Campismo do Rebentão get a discount and can come and go through the day. For day visitors, bring cash and a card and check the price at the gate.

The council’s pages don’t publish the rules for the Rebentão pools. Most Portuguese public pools ask everyone to shower before swimming, ban glass and inflatables, and expect young children to be supervised by an adult, so plan on the same and check the notices at the entrance.

If you’re looking for an indoor pool in Chaves, note that the city’s covered municipal pools (Piscinas Municipais cobertas) close from 28 September 2026. The council is building new municipal pools, with work due to start in October. In the meantime, the council has arranged reduced prices for swimmers at the pools in Verín, just over the Spanish border, for holders of the Cartão de Eurocidadão; ask the council how to get one.

Chaves is a long way from our other listings, so it pairs best with sights in Trás-os-Montes. The Tresminas Roman gold mines, in Vila Pouca de Aguiar, show where the Romans dug huge open pits for gold, and make a good morning before an afternoon swim. Is there a baby pool at the Rebentão?

Yes. There’s a paddling pool (chapinheiro) as well as a separate learner and play pool for children.

In 2026 they opened on 13 June, from 10:00 to 20:00 Tuesday to Sunday and from 14:00 on Mondays.

How much does it cost?

The council hadn’t published 2026 prices when checked. Campers at the Rebentão campsite get a discount.

Is there food at the Rebentão pools?

There’s a bar at the pools, and a restaurant on the same estate.

Is there an indoor pool in Chaves?

Not from 28 September 2026, when the old covered pools close for the new pool project. The council has arranged cheaper swimming at the pools in Verín for Eurocidadão card holders.
