Doca de Santo

Doca de Santo is a Portuguese restaurant in one of the old warehouses on the Doca de Santo Amaro, the marina in Alcântara where Lisbon’s riverside restaurants line up under the 25 de Abril bridge. Families come here for the outdoor space. Time Out Lisboa describes a large children’s area and a terrace that “almost looks like a garden”, where children can run about. Pumpkin, the Portuguese parenting site, says the play area has slides and that parents can keep an eye on it from anywhere in the restaurant.

For a child, the draw is simple: eat a few mouthfuls, go down the slide, come back for chips. For parents, the play area is close enough to the tables that you are not getting up every two minutes.

The restaurant has been on the dock since 1995 and marked 30 years in 2025. The website says it welcomes families, groups and children.

When Time Out listed it in January 2025, the kids’ menu had soup of the day, a main course of grilled chicken steak with sliced potatoes or croquettes with Thai rice, and seasonal fruit or a scoop of ice cream to finish. That covers most fussy eaters.

The full menu is a digital PDF linked from the website, with starters, meat, fish, vegetarian dishes, desserts and a children’s section. The main menu is Portuguese with some international dishes. On weekday lunchtimes there is a dish of the day with a drink for €14.50, or €16.50 with coffee and dessert, when checked in September 2026. The rota was:

• Monday: croquettes with tomato rice
• Tuesday: tuna steak with a tomato and bread soup
• Wednesday: grilled chicken with garlic and coriander rice and salad
• Thursday: prawn pasta
• Friday: roast rib with bean rice

Wednesday’s chicken and Monday’s croquettes are the easiest for children, if you’d rather order from the adult menu and share.

The terrace faces the marina and the river, with the bridge towering above. The play area is outdoors and is not supervised by staff, so it works best on dry days and in daylight. Dogs are welcome on the terrace, which also means the space can be busy with pushchairs, bikes and dogs at weekend lunch.

The website says the ground floor is accessible and there is free Wi-Fi. It does not mention high chairs or baby changing, so ask when you book if you need them.

From Monday to Thursday the kitchen serves lunch from 12:00 to 15:00, closes, then reopens from 19:00 to midnight. From Friday to Sunday it serves straight through from noon to midnight, which helps with a late lunch after a morning out. You can book online or by phone on +351 213 963 535. Book for weekend lunch if you want a terrace table near the play area.

There is a car park next to the restaurant, and customers get two hours at a discount. By train, Alcântara-Mar station on the Cascais line is a short walk away.

The Doca de Santo Amaro is the departure point for HIPPOtrip, the amphibious bus tour that drives into the river, and for the SeaEO dolphin-watching boat trips. A short walk inland, the Museu da Carris has old trams and buses in its Santo Amaro depot. Pumpkin also mentions an Artisani ice cream shop next door to the restaurant.

Is the play area at Doca de Santo supervised?

No. It is an outdoor play area next to the terrace, and parents watch their own children. You can see it from the tables.

Does Doca de Santo have a kids’ menu?
