Complexo de Piscinas de Lagos (Lagos em Forma)

The Complexo de Piscinas de Lagos is the town’s public indoor pool. It sits inside the Complexo Desportivo de Lagos at Rossio de São João, and it belongs to the council. The day-to-day running is done by Lagos em Forma, the municipal company that also runs the town’s gym and car parks, so that’s the name you’ll see on the website, the price list and the reception desk.

All three pools are heated, according to the operator:

• The competition pool (tanque de competição): 25 metres long, 17 metres wide and 2 metres deep. Older swim classes and public lane swimming use it.
• Learner pool 1 (tanque de aprendizagem): 17 by 8 metres and 90 cm deep throughout. It has a massage system with jacuzzi jets, water cannons for the neck and a lower-back massage.
• Learner pool 2: 17 by 9 metres, sloping from 90 cm to 1.30 m.

There are no slides or play features. It’s a sports and swim-school complex, and it’s at its best as a warm place to swim in winter or on a wet day, or as somewhere for weekly lessons.

Public swimming here is called utilização livre, which means swimming on your own without a class. Lagos em Forma explains that some lanes of the 25-metre pool are always kept for public swimmers during these hours, and that you can use any other free space too, including the learner pools, if classes aren’t using them. If a class starts in the space you’re in, the lifeguard on duty will move you somewhere else, so don’t be surprised if it happens.

The public-swim timetable posted on the operator’s website shows swimming from Monday to Friday between 17:00 and 21:00:

• Learner pool: 19:00 to 21:00 Monday to Thursday, and 19:30 to 21:00 on Friday.
• 25-metre pool: 17:00 to 18:00 and 20:15 to 21:00 Monday to Thursday; on Friday 17:00 to 18:45 and 20:15 to 21:00.

That leaves an early-evening window in the deep pool and a later one in the shallow pool, which suits school-age children better than toddlers. The timetable image doesn’t carry a season date, and the price list also shows a cheaper Saturday public swim after 13:00, so ring or ask at reception for the current times before planning around them.

These are the prices from the 2025/2026 season price list, which was the one online when checked in September 2026:

• Public swimming, age 12 and over: €5.
• Public swimming, children aged 6 to 11: €3.
• On Saturdays after 13:00: €2 for children aged 6 to 11, and €4 for adults (sold as a pool and gym pass).
• A monthly Cartão Aqua, one hour a day in the pool: €32.
• A shower on its own: €2.50.

The price list doesn’t give a public-swim price for under-6s, so ask at reception whether they can come in with you and what it costs. People over 65 and people with a disability of more than 60% pay the lower “special” price on most items.

The Escola de Atividades Aquáticas is the complex’s swim school. Classes follow a clear ladder by age and ability, and the operator’s website sets out what children learn at each stage.

• IPF, Interação Pais e Filhos (parent and child), 9 to 36 months. A parent is in the water. Lessons last 30 minutes, run on Saturday mornings in the learner pool, and take 8 to 12 babies. As the months go on, the teacher asks parents to step back a little, though they keep taking part. Babies of 9 to 24 months work on gliding, floating, breath-holding and little jumps; from 25 to 36 months the aims add basic survival skills.
• AMA 0, ages 3 to 4. For children not yet ready to be in class without a parent on the poolside or in the water, or who are moving up from IPF. It’s a stepping stone where parents gradually leave the water.
• AMA I, ages 4 to 5. Playful classes for beginners: blowing bubbles, picking objects off the bottom, jumping in from sitting, then floating and kicking.
• AMA II, ages 6 to 8. Children who have some confidence learn rolls, back floats and gliding.
• AMA III and AMA IV, ages 9 to 14. For older beginners who aren’t ready for the deep pool yet. AMA IV moves into the 25-metre pool as the bridge to stroke classes.
• NT (Nível Técnico) classes, ages 7 to 17, in three levels: Introdutório, Elementar and Avançado. These teach front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, with starts and turns. There’s also an adult level from 18.

AMA classes last 45 minutes and you choose one, two or three a week. Most AMA classes run in the two learner pools at the same time.

Monthly fees in the 2025/2026 price list: €26 for one class a week, €35 for two and €44 for three; €24 a month for the parent-and-baby class. The first month also includes a €4 cap in the colour of your child’s level. Registration with annual insurance costs €20 with a user card or €15 without. Paying eight months or more up front takes 5% off and includes the insurance; direct debit takes 5% off each month.

For the 2026/2027 season, Lagos em Forma said renewals opened on 24 August and new enrolments from 31 August, subject to places. New pupils first have an observação diagnóstica, a short assessment in the water to place them in the right class (€3), which you can book through the Lagos em Forma app. Private lessons are also available, from €27 for a single session.

The operator lists the compulsory kit:

• A swim cap (touca), for everyone.
• Close-fitting Lycra trunks for boys and men; a one-piece swimsuit for girls and women.

Flip-flops are recommended for the showers and poolside. If you bring valuables, bring a padlock for the lockers; reception also sells them.

Lagos em Forma publishes its general facilities regulations as a scanned PDF, so for rules on babies, nappies and the age at which children can swim without an adult, ask at reception before your first visit.

The complex hosts pool birthday parties. In the 2025/2026 price list the base fee was €100, including 20 printed invitations, plus €4 for each child taking part. Ask at reception what the party includes and whether staff run the activities.

• Public swimming is limited to set weekday evening windows and the Saturday afternoon slot. There’s no public swimming on Sundays, when the complex is closed.
• The deep pool is 2 metres all the way across, so younger children and weak swimmers should stay in the learner pools.
• Hours were due to change from October 2026, according to the operator’s homepage. Check the new times before you go.
• There are no slides or leisure features, and the complex doesn’t publish water temperatures.

The complex is a short drive from Meia Praia, the long sandy beach east of the town, which makes a good pairing in late spring when the sea is still cold. On a rainy day, the Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos is a hands-on science centre about sea voyages and navigation. Out of town, Zoo de Lagos is in the hills north of town near Barão de São João, and Fortaleza de Sagres stands on the headland at the south-western tip of the Algarve.

Do children need a swim cap at Lagos pool?

Yes. A cap is compulsory for everyone, along with close-fitting trunks or a one-piece swimsuit. Swim school pupils get a cap in their level’s colour with the first month’s fee.

How much does a swim cost in Lagos?

Is the pool heated?
