SandCastle is an indoor family space in central Lisbon, a few minutes from the Gulbenkian gardens, built for children from 1 to 7. The play area is set up for calm, creative play rather than noisy rides. Children dig in a sensory sandbox, go down slides, climb on soft climbing zones and play in role-play corners. The toys are eco-friendly, and the team says children often leave with something they have made.

It suits children who get overwhelmed in big, loud soft-play centres. Play is supervised by the staff, while parents sit in the café, work in the coworking room or stay close by. Babies under 12 months are welcome if an adult stays with them.

SandCastle is one of the few places in Lisbon where you can leave a young child with staff for a few hours. From age 4, you can leave your child in the team’s care and run errands nearby. There is also a DayCare option: SandCastle says it is not a preschool or a nursery, but you can leave a child aged 4 or older for half a day or a whole day. Staff look after them, share photos with you during the day, and can arrange meals if needed.

Drop-off costs €50 a day, which SandCastle says is the better deal for more than four hours, or €350 for a monthly pass, when checked in September 2026. For under-4s, an adult must stay inside the venue, either in the café or in the play zone.

Everyday play needs no booking. You drop in any time between 10:00 and 20:00 and pay by time:

The café is aimed at parents who want more than a quick coffee. When checked, an espresso was €1.50, a cappuccino €3.50 and a specialty hot chocolate €5. For children there were crêpes (€9.50), syrniki, the Slavic cottage-cheese pancakes (€10.50), vanilla or coconut ice cream (€3.50), a banana, apple or orange for €0.80, sugar-free fruit pastilles and small cartons of juice (€1.40). There are also plenty of vegan and raw sweets, fruit bowls and hashbrowns. For everyday visits you use the café rather than bringing your own food.

The coworking room has fast Wi-Fi and live cameras showing the playroom, so a parent can work in peace while a child aged 4 or older plays next door, or while a younger child plays with another adult on site.

SandCastle hosts birthdays and says they work best for children around 2 to 5. A party lasts 3 hours with full supervision and includes up to 10 children, a private room for the birthday table and access to the garden terrace, which can be BBQ-friendly by arrangement. It cost €250 on weekdays or €300 at weekends when checked, with extra children at €15 (weekday) or €20 (weekend). For parties, you may bring your own food, drinks and cake.

The team also runs creative workshops led by designers and artists, plus group classes for children in singing, art and clay modelling. Check the website or message them for dates.

SandCastle is at Av. Miguel Bombarda 72, near São Sebastião metro. Afterwards, the lake of ducks and turtles in the Gulbenkian garden are a three-minute walk away, and the Lisbon Zoo is a short metro ride away at Jardim Zoológico station.

Can I leave my child at SandCastle?

Yes, from age 4. You can leave a child aged 4 or over in the staff’s care. Under-4s need an adult inside the venue.
