Manolas Skate School

Manolas Skate School is a small skateboard school that teaches in public skateparks around Lisbon. It was founded in 2021 by Flávio Coelho, known as Manolas, who holds the skate teacher’s certificate accredited by the Federação de Patinagem de Portugal, the Portuguese skating federation. The school takes adults and children from the age of 4, from complete beginners to skaters who want to learn new tricks.

The school describes its approach as learning through fun, friendship and respect. Lessons are either private (one pupil, or siblings together) or in small groups of two to six.

There isn’t a single school building. Lessons happen at skateparks around Lisbon and the Oeiras coast, arranged to suit the teacher’s and pupil’s availability. The places listed on the school’s site are:

Surfskate lessons, on a board that turns and pumps like a surfboard, take place on the Calçadão de Oeiras, the seafront promenade.

If the ground is wet, a lesson may move to another location or be rescheduled.

The school pitches its lessons at three levels: trying a board for the first time, learning to ride, and improving, from the basics up to advanced tricks at each skater’s own pace. The website says the school aims to let pupils progress all year round. The school says it has everything needed for the lesson, and protective gear can be hired for €5 a lesson if you don’t have your own.

Safety kit is compulsory at every lesson: a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards. Every pupil on a monthly plan or a pack also has to take out the school’s personal accident insurance, which is renewed each year.

When checked in September 2026:

Private lessons (one hour)

• Single lesson: €35, valid for a month, insurance included
• Pack of 4: €100, valid for two months
• Pack of 8: €190, valid for three months
• Pack of 10: €225, valid for four months

Private lessons can only be shared by siblings. One pupil uses one hour of the pack; two siblings together use two.

Group lessons (2 to 6 pupils)

Group lesson packs were €70, €130 and €155. The price page lists a single trial group lesson too; check the current price when you book.

Extras

• Yearly sports insurance: €25, compulsory with a monthly plan or pack
• Protective gear hire: €5 a lesson

Book through the website, by phone or by WhatsApp on +351 926 412 054. Trial lessons are paid when you book, and pack lessons need to be booked in advance.

To cancel a pack lesson you need to give 48 hours’ notice, or it counts as used. If a lesson is cancelled because of the weather or because the teacher can’t make it, it’s made up at another time.

Monthly lessons always happen on the same day and at the same time each week. Payment is due between the 25th and the 1st of the month, and missed monthly lessons aren’t made up.

Lessons take place in public skateparks, which can be busy with older skaters, and some young beginners find that daunting. A private lesson with the teacher beside them is a gentler way in. Falls are part of learning, which is why the pads are compulsory.

This is a teaching service, not a venue, so there are no toilets or cafés beyond what each skatepark or nearby area offers. Lessons are outdoors and depend on dry ground.

What happens if it rains?

If the weather stops a lesson, it’s rescheduled. On wet ground the lesson may also move to another spot.

Can two children share a lesson?

Private lessons can be shared only by siblings, and each child uses one lesson from the pack. Otherwise, group lessons take two to six pupils.
