Parque Urbano do Neudel

The Parque Urbano do Neudel is a council park in Amadora, in the parish of Águas Livres, that opened in August 2017. It’s designed around water. The council lists reflecting pools, fountains, a small water park (parque aquático), a waterfall and a biological lake (a natural-style pond with plants). There are about 400 trees of different species.

Time Out included it in its September 2025 list of the best playgrounds in and around Lisbon, describing a small water park, rope bridges, swings, a fitness circuit, water features and a waterfall.

The council says the park has equipment for active play and traditional children’s play equipment. According to Time Out, that includes rope bridges and swings. For younger children, the water is the main attraction: the small water play area, the fountains and the waterfall.

We couldn’t find a season or timetable for the water play area. If the splashing is the reason you’re going, check first that the water is on, especially outside summer, and bring a change of clothes and a towel.

There are seating areas, a kiosk with a terrace (esplanada) and landscaped terraces, with pergolas for shade and an aromatic herb garden. The fitness circuit lets parents exercise while children play, and a waterside promenade runs past the lake. There’s also a multifunction building, though the council doesn’t say what’s inside it.

• The council doesn’t mention toilets, so plan around the kiosk.
• There’s no published age breakdown for the equipment, and we don’t know if the play areas are fenced. If you have a toddler who heads straight for the water, keep a hand free.
• Bring sun cream and water in summer, and a spare set of clothes for anyone who gets wet.

In June 2026 Amadora council approved a public tender for a major makeover of the park, worth more than €1.7 million plus VAT. The plan renews the play and leisure areas and adds new, inclusive children’s equipment, led by a play tower designed to build children’s motor skills and senses. The council also plans to remove the small ponds, which it says have caused problems for local people, while keeping and maintaining the lake. New inclusive drinking fountains and better benches and street furniture are part of the same project.

The council hasn’t published a start date or a finish date. Once the works begin, parts of the park, and perhaps the water features, are likely to be fenced off, so check the council’s news before a special trip.

The park has one of the fenced dog parks the council opened in May 2021, about 400 square metres with shade, agility equipment and a water point, so dogs can run off the lead away from the play areas. Since 2019 it has also had a drinking fountain with a lower bowl for dogs, which saves carrying water for everyone.

Neudel is one of the parks used by Amadora Ativa, the council’s free outdoor activity programme, which ran until September in 2026 with sessions such as zumba, yoga and capoeira run by local clubs; most need no booking. The council’s Dia do Animal (animal day) programme was due to stop at Neudel on 10 October 2026, from 10:00 to 18:00, with information on adoption and animal welfare.
