Piscinas Municipais de Estremoz

Estremoz is a marble town in the Évora district, between Évora and Elvas. Its council pools sit inside the town’s municipal sports park, the Parque Desportivo Municipal Dr. Luís Pascoal Rosado, and opened on 13 December 1989. The site has an indoor pool used most of the year and, in summer, an outdoor pool and a paddling pool.

The detail that matters most for families: children up to 12 swim free. Teenagers pay €1.20 and adults €2.20.

• The indoor pool (piscina coberta) is 25 metres long and 12.5 metres wide, with six lanes. The council says it is for swimming and for leisure. There’s a pool hoist (a chair that lowers people with reduced mobility into the water) and a stand with about 271 seats.
• The outdoor pool (piscina descoberta) is 25 metres long and 12 metres wide.
• A separate outdoor paddling pool (chapinheiro) is for small children.

The council doesn’t publish depths or water temperatures. The paddling pool is the obvious place for toddlers, and in the indoor pool check depths with staff before young children go in.

The complex has changing rooms, an accessible changing room and toilet, and a bar.

Winter hours (indoor pool):

• Monday: 15:00 to 21:15
• Tuesday to Friday: 08:30 to 21:15
• Saturday and Sunday: 09:00 to 13:30

Summer hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 19:00, closed on Mondays.

For 2026 the outdoor pools opened on Tuesday 23 June at 10:00 and ran until 13 September, Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 19:00. The council closes them on Mondays for cleaning and maintenance.

Weekend mornings are the only weekend swimming in winter, so a Saturday or Sunday visit in the cooler months needs to start early.

The council publishes one simple price list:

• Up to 12: free
• 13 to 17: €1.20
• 18 and over: €2.20
• Book of 30 tickets: €35
• Cartão Jovem (youth card) holders: 50% off
• Holders of the municipal 65+ card: prices set in separate rules

A family with two adults and children of primary-school age pays €4.40 for everyone. Ask at the desk whether children need ID to prove their age.

The council’s page doesn’t list the pool rules. Pack swim caps and flip-flops, shower before you swim, and check the rules at reception, including whether children need an adult in the water with them.

The indoor pool is a six-lane sports pool rather than a leisure pool, so there are no slides or play features. Outside the summer season, weekend opening ends at 13:30. The outdoor season is short, from late June to mid September, and Mondays are closed in summer. We found no published information about shade, parking or children’s swimming lessons.

Estremoz is in the marble belt of the Alentejo. The marble route at Vila Viçosa shows children the huge quarries the stone comes from, and makes a good morning before an afternoon swim. Towards Évora, the Évora municipal pools have a diving tank and baby pools, and in Elvas the Amoreira aqueduct and the military museum are worth the drive east.
