Piscinas Municipais de Ourém

Ourém is the municipality that includes Fátima. Its main council pools are in the town of Ourém itself, in the Parque da Cidade António Teixeira, the city park. The complex has one indoor pool and two outdoor pools, and the council runs it directly.

The outdoor pools are the summer draw. The indoor pool, built in 1993, is mainly for the swimming school and public swimming in term time.

The council’s rules describe two outdoor pools:

• A leisure pool (piscina recreativa), 0.80 m deep at the shallow end and 2 m at the deep end.
• A children’s pool (piscina infantil), 0.80 m deep all over.

There’s also a lawn and sunbathing area (zona verde/solário), a bar, changing rooms with individual and shared showers, outdoor toilets, footbaths and a first-aid post.

At 80 cm, the children’s pool is still over a toddler’s chest, so toddlers need an adult with them in the water.

A summer after the storms

In late January 2026, storms brought down many trees in the city park and damaged the pool complex, and for a while the council wasn’t sure the pools would open on time. They did reopen on 1 July 2026 after months of repairs. Local news reported that the loss of trees has reduced the shade in the pool area, and you’re not allowed to bring your own parasol. Rent a lounger set with a parasol, or come in the late afternoon.

Hours and prices

The outdoor pools open from 1 July to 15 September: Mondays from 14:00 to 19:00 (closed to the public in the morning) and Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 19:00.

If you stay more than 30 minutes past the end of a morning ticket, you pay an extra €2.18 (children) or €3.27 (adults). Packs of 10 entries are sold for the season. Groups of 8 or more get discounts.

Rentals: two loungers and a parasol cost €1.35 for the morning, €2 for the afternoon or €3.30 for the day. A tent set (tent, two loungers, a table and a pouffe) costs €5.60, €6.90 or €8.25. Nothing can be booked in advance.

From the council’s rules:

• Under-12s must be with an adult who is responsible for watching them.
• Swim shorts or swimsuit and flip-flops are compulsory. No T-shirts, trousers, skirts or dresses in the water.
• Swim nappies are compulsory for children up to 2.
• Shower before you go in.
• Armbands, airbeds and balls need staff permission.
• No eating, drinking or smoking in the pool areas; eat on the lawn or at the bar.
• No glass bottles or cans, no parasols and no animals.
• No running or pushing by the pools.
• Tickets aren’t refunded for bad weather.

Swim caps, swimsuits, towels and flip-flops may be on sale at reception.

The indoor pool runs from 1 October to 30 June and is closed from 1 July to 14 September. It opens on weekdays from 15:00 to 21:00 and on Saturdays from 8:30 to 13:30, and closes on Sundays and holidays.

The Escola Municipal de Atividades Aquáticas holds the Portuguese Swimming Federation’s gold level 1 recognition. It teaches:

• Baby swimming from 6 to 36 months.
• Water confidence (adaptação ao meio aquático) for children and young people.
• Swimming levels 1 to 4.
• Adult classes, water aerobics, senior classes and personal lessons.

Enrolment for 2026/27 opened on 15 September 2026. The council’s price table gives children’s swimming school fees from €16.40 a month for one class a week.

Indoor public swimming is free for children up to 6. Ages 7 to 17 pay €2.18 for the first hour and €1.09 for each hour after; adults pay €3.27 and €2.18. Packs of 5 and 10 entries are cheaper, with a user card.

• The outdoor pools don’t open on Monday mornings.
• Shade is limited since the 2026 storms, and your own parasol isn’t allowed.
• The indoor pool has no public restaurant, but the outdoor complex has a bar in summer.
• The council also runs the Piscina de Fátima, an indoor pool in Fátima used for lessons and public swimming, and a pool in Caxarias.

There’s plenty to pair with a swim. The dinosaur footprints at the Serra de Aire are in Ourém municipality, the Grutas da Moeda caves are near Fátima, and FunPark Fátima is there for a day of rides.

How much are the Ourém outdoor pools?

In summer 2026 a full day cost €3.95 for ages 7 to 17 and €5.25 for adults, with cheaper morning and afternoon tickets. Children up to 6 go free with an adult.

Is there a children’s pool?

Yes, an outdoor children’s pool 80 cm deep, next to a leisure pool that starts at 80 cm and goes down to 2 m.

Can my child use armbands?

Only with permission from the pool staff, according to the rules. Ask when you arrive.

When are the outdoor pools open?
