Piscinas Municipais de Vendas Novas

Vendas Novas is a town in the Évora district on the old main road from Lisbon to Évora; the council’s visitor pages give pride of place to its bifanas (pork sandwiches). Its council pools, the Piscinas Municipais de Vendas Novas, open every summer as one of the town’s busiest meeting places.

In 2026 the season ran from 8 June to 5 September, from 10:00 to 19:00, closed on Sundays.

The outdoor complex has:

• An Olympic pool for swimmers.
• A diving tank (tanque de saltos).
• A children’s pool (piscina infantil) for young children.
• Wide lawns with trees, so you can find shade to spread out in, and a bar.

The council doesn’t publish depths or say which boards are open over the diving tank, so ask the lifeguards before children use it. There is also a covered pool heated to 30 °C, used by the municipal swimming school (Escola Municipal de Natação). In summer 2026 the council kept its water aerobics classes going there for existing students aged 14 and over, at €10.95 a month for one 40-minute class a week.

Vendas Novas prices vary a lot by day, time and whether you live there, so it’s worth checking before you go. For visitors (preço geral):

People with a certified physical or mental illness go free. Weekday cards of 10 tickets and 30-hour cards are also sold for over-11s.

Adults save most by arriving after 16:00 on a weekday: €3.80 instead of €7.70. Two adults and two children aged 4 to 10 pay €20.60 at the full weekday price.

Residents of Vendas Novas and students at schools in the municipality can get a Cartão do Munícipe, which cuts pool prices by more than half: for example €1.15 for a 4 to 10-year-old and €3.45 for an adult on a weekday. Apply at the pools with an ID card or residence permit, a photo and proof of address or an up-to-date student card. For under-18s a parent signs an authorisation. Cardholders can buy tickets in the VendasNovas Desporto app.

The council sells tickets online through its Sport Studio webshop, so you can skip the queue on hot days. Tickets for the same day go on sale at midnight. From 16:00 only the afternoon ticket is available.

The price list says children up to 10 must come with an adult. The council’s page doesn’t list the other pool rules, so bring swim caps and flip-flops and check at the entrance.

Visitor prices are high for a council pool, especially on Saturdays, when an adult pays €10.20. The pools close on Sundays, which rules out a family Sunday. There are trees on the lawns, so you can find shade. We found no information about parking. The season is short, ending in early September.

Montemor-o-Novo, further east on the same road, has its own summer pools with a family ticket. Further on, Évora has the municipal pools with baby pools and a diving tank, and the Chapel of Bones. To the north, the Fluviário de Mora is a freshwater aquarium for a rainy day.
