Skatepark de Odemira

Odemira is the inland town at the centre of the municipality that also takes in Vila Nova de Milfontes and Zambujeira do Mar on the coast. The town’s skatepark is a small circuit right next to the Mercado Municipal, built by A-Park, the company behind several skateparks in the region. The builder describes it as a good stop for anyone on holiday in the area, and that’s the right way to think of it: a free hour of riding while you shop at the market or break a journey, not a full day out.

The circuit has four obstacles:

• a quarter pipe, a curved ramp that sends you back the way you came
• a pyramid, a flat-topped block with sloping sides to roll up and over
• a funbox, a raised box with ramps on either end
• an incline, a single sloping ramp

That’s a short list, but for a child who is starting out it’s plenty. The incline and the pyramid are good first ramps once your child can push, steer and stop on the flat. The quarter pipe needs more confidence and speed. Because the park is small, you can watch your child from anywhere around it.

Skateboard School Alentejo is a small skateboard school based in Vila Nova de Milfontes. It lists Odemira as one of its three local parks, with Sines and Santo André, and the price of its private lessons includes travel to all three. When checked in September 2026 a 1.5-hour private lesson cost €50 for one to three people, €60 for four or five and €70 for six.

The school also runs open lessons every two weeks at Odemira, Sines or Santo André. They’re trial sessions for five to eight children, to find out whether skateboarding appeals before signing up for anything longer. Its regular eight-week group courses are for children aged 6 and over. For every lesson the school provides boards and protective gear, so a child can try it without you buying anything first.

• It’s free and open to the public.
• Parking is free but limited to a few spaces beside the park. You have to drive into the market car park to reach them.
• We could not confirm shade, toilets, drinking water or lighting from the sources we checked. The market next door is the obvious place to buy a drink.
• There is no published helmet rule. A helmet, wrist guards and knee pads are sensible on concrete.
• Summers inland are hot. Go early or late in the day in July and August.

For a bigger session, the Santo André Skate Plaza has far more to ride, and there’s a newer small park at Cercal do Alentejo. On the coast, Praia das Furnas at Vila Nova de Milfontes is where the river Mira meets the sea.

Is the Odemira skatepark free?

Yes, and so is the parking beside it.

Is it good for beginners?

Yes. It’s small, with four obstacles, and the incline and pyramid suit children who are just learning.
