KartMontijo

KartMontijo (sometimes written Kart Montijo) is a karting centre in Alto Estanqueiro, on the Montijo side of the Tagus The complex covers more than 56,000 m². For children, the bit that matters is the indoor Kids Track, where anyone from four years old can drive an electric kart on their own.

Many tracks start later: the child karts at Indoor Karting Famalicão start at seven, and at the Algarve circuit four-year-olds ride in a two-seater with an adult. Here a four-year-old gets their own seat, their own steering wheel and 15 minutes of going round corners as fast as the kart allows. The karts are electric, so there is no petrol smell and less noise than you might expect.

There are two tracks, and children only use one of them.

• The Kids Track is indoors, with electric karts for ages four and up. A 15-minute session was €20 when checked in September 2026.
• The Racing Track runs indoors and outdoors, with Sodikart RX8 karts and Honda 270cc engines. A 15-minute session was €25. KartMontijo says that for safety reasons, under-18s may not use the Racing Track for individual sessions, and a balaclava is compulsory on it.

Teenagers can still get on the Racing Track through a birthday party (ages 13 to 17) or a group booking, as described below. For a younger child, the Kids Track is the whole visit.

Kart4Fun is KartMontijo’s package for schools, colégios, ATLs (after-school clubs) and colónias de férias (holiday camps). It needs at least ten drivers, so a homeschool co-op or a group of families could book it together. Groups are split by age: 4 to 12 on the Kids Track, 13 to 18 on the Racing Track, or mixed.

The package includes use of both tracks and indoor rooms where the group can have snacks or a meal. The booking form offers start times on the hour from 10:00 to 16:00, or a custom time. The page does not give a price, so ask when you enquire.

• Kids Track parties, for ages 4 to 13, cost €350 to €400. You get the track to yourselves, electric karts, medals and all the equipment.
• Racing Track parties, for ages 13 to 17, cost €400 to €450, with the track to yourselves, a 15-minute timed race, medals and equipment.

Group events for adults follow a set format: five minutes of practice, then one or two races of ten or fifteen minutes, from €30 to €50 per driver. These need at least eight drivers on weekdays and ten at weekends and on holidays. They are useful if a family gathering includes older teenagers and adults who want a proper race.

You don’t need to book a single session: turn up during opening hours and wait your turn. At weekends and on public holidays, phone first to check how busy it is. Opening hours are 10:00 to 18:30 every day.

Everyone driving signs a waiver, which the website links to as a PDF, along with a safety briefing document. Prices on the website include VAT and can change without notice.

There is a bar on site, leisure rooms and free parking. Because the Kids Track is indoors, this works on a rainy day.

Fifteen minutes on the track goes very fast for a child who loves it. Decide beforehand how many sessions you will pay for, to avoid a negotiation at the barrier. A toddler under four can only watch.

The Museu Agrícola da Atalaia, also in Montijo, is a free museum farm with a working olive-oil mill, and pairs well with a morning of karting. Children who want to ride a motorbike rather than drive a kart can try BA Motopark in Seixal (from age four) or MX Spot in Pegões, further along the A13.
